Frequently Asked Questions
What are Nonograms?
Nonograms, also known as Picross or Griddlers, are picture logic puzzles where you use numerical clues to fill in a grid and reveal a hidden picture. Each row and column has numbers indicating how many consecutive filled cells appear in that line.
How do I play Nonograms?
Use the numbers on the sides and top of the grid as clues. These numbers tell you how many filled squares appear consecutively in that row or column. Click or tap a cell once to fill it, again to mark it with an X (empty), and a third time to clear it. Solve the puzzle by filling the grid correctly.
Play Nonograms now or read our tips and strategies.
What do the numbers mean?
Each number represents a group of consecutive filled cells. For example, "3 1" means there's a group of 3 filled cells, then at least one empty cell, then 1 filled cell. Multiple numbers mean multiple groups separated by at least one empty cell.
What's the difference between difficulty levels?
Our difficulty levels affect the puzzle generation:
- Easy: Fewer clue groups, longer consecutive runs, more obvious patterns
- Medium: Balanced difficulty with moderate complexity
- Hard: More clue groups, shorter runs, more challenging logic required
Can I create custom grid sizes?
Yes! You can choose from preset sizes (5x5, 10x10, 15x15, 20x20, 25x25) or create custom rectangular puzzles. Use the dropdowns to select your desired number of rows and columns, then click "Apply".
What should I do if I get stuck?
Try using the Hint button, which reveals one correct cell. You can also:
- Look for rows/columns with large numbers (they provide more information)
- Find overlapping areas where clues can be satisfied
- Use the X marks to eliminate possibilities
- Check our tips and strategies guide for advanced techniques
